Rotating anode X-ray tube is a device that shortens the exposure time of X-ray radiography, obtains a sharp image and increases the power of the X-ray tube.

In order to reduce the exposure time of radiography and obtain a clear image, the X-ray tube should produce high-density X-rays in a very short period of time. For this reason, the power of the X-ray tube must be increased. However, the energy supplied to the tube to convert it into X-rays is very low, and more than 99% of the energy is converted to heat and dissipated on the anode, causing the anode temperature to increase rapidly. In a fixed anode X-ray tube, because the heat is focused on the point of focus, the anode can easily overheat and melt locally. However, in the rotating anode X-ray tube, due to the constant rotation of the anode, the heat is distributed over an annular area, which greatly increases the heat dissipation area and significantly reduces the anode temperature; living at the same temperature can greatly enhance the X-ray tube power. The emergence of rotating anode X-ray tube, the development of diagnostic X-ray tube appeared a leap forward, effectively prompted the development of medical diagnostic techniques.
